Background

The Mother Rita Barcelo Outreach Program is one of the five major programs of the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolacion. It is the congregation’s zeal to concretize the Mission Statement and Charism Statement which means thrust is evangelization, both for the school constituents and the communities of the Poor, Deprived, Oppressed and Exploited (PDOE). It objectives is to produce socially-conscious and value-oriented Christian committed to social transformation. The importance of carrying out the Augustinian Philosophy of Education in our Mission Statement is therefore put into concrete system of education and implementation of the outreach Program through the Mother Rita Barcelo Outreach Center (MRBOC).

Description / Definition

The Outreach Program is an educational process which develops three abilities: to see, to judge, and act. It oftentimes bring participants out of their day-to-day experiences in a sense that they become aware of the prepare situation outside their community.

The MRBOC’s role is that of a catalyst which facilitate the formation of program and services of the people and in order for the MRBOC’s to be efficient and effective, three interconnected elements should be developed in the program as well as in the beneficiaries namely:

• Organization – provides a venue for concerned well coordinated actions for a common vision and goal. This requires enabling structures where they exercise collegiality, subsidiary and interdependence.
  
• Formation – where people including the MRBOC staff are given continuous and liberating education and training.
  
• Services – are expression of our love for all creations that comprehensively responds to the needs and aspirations of the people towards social change.

Main Programs:

• Solidarity Advocacy Program (SAP) – school based activities/project which directly organizes the school constituents, provides continuous training and formation and mobilizes them as part of the support group of PDOE.
  
• Community Organizing Development Program (CODP) a community based project which is directly responsible in organizing and conscientisizing the community of PDOE and the facilitation of the project and services of the people.
